FIRE crews fought a four-hour battle to extinguish a blaze at a farm during the night.
The blaze at Rough Farm, in Winwick Lane, Croft near Warrington, involved a five-bay barn containing two trailers laden with baled hay, other farm machinery and a quantity of agricultural chemicals.
Two fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood were involved in the operation which was completed around 4am today.
A Fire Service spokesman said the fire had almost certainly been started deliberately. The barn was in an isolated position and was clearly visible from the M6.
Firefighters used cooling jets to protect the chemicals in the building.
