TWO women cashiers were left fearing for their lives when a man brandishing a knife threatened to kill them.
Kevin Docherty, 28, demanded money from the women in a Co-op store and said: “Don’t press any alarms or I will kill you.”
The terrified women handed over cash and were left sobbing and shaking with fear. It was the second robbery ordeal they had suffered in a matter of weeks, Warrington Crown Court was told.
Docherty, of Brindley Avenue, Latchford, Warrington was jailed for 28 months after pleading guilty to robbery at the store in Padgate Lane, Warrington.
Judge Thomas Teague told him: “Your victims must have suffered psychological trauma from your actions. You pose a serious risk to the public.”
David Jones, prosecuting, said the defendant entered the shop and threatened one of the women, Jean Briggs, with a knife.
She handed over all the £20 notes in the till and then, after he again threatened her, threw all the £10 notes on the counter.
The other woman, Lynn Slater, later told police: “It hit us both after he had left. We both broke down and I couldn’t stop my hands from shaking.”
Docherty later told police he had been driven to the store by Manchester gangsters who gave him the knife and forced him to commit the offence because he owed them money for drugs.
Oliver Jarvis, defending, said Docherty, had a chronic 12-year addiction to cocaine and was supposed to act as a dealer for someone else.
But he used all his supply of cocaine himself and committed the offence because he had to pay for the drug.
