THREE former pupils of Birchwood Community High School in Warrington have beaten the competition to be local finalists in a prestigious award scheme.
The youngsters beat applicants from throughout the county to become finalists in the Cheshire and Warrington stage of the Learning and Skills Council North West Learner Awards.
Alisha-Naomi Cooper won the Apprentice of the Year category, having shown application and dedication during apprenticeship at Lisa B’s hair salon in Warrington.
Katie Harris, who is studying at Priestley College following outstanding GCSE results at Birchwood, won the Further Education Award (Academic).
Naomi Cheetham, who is working for the Warrington Disability Partnership before studying at York University, was nominated for the Further Education Award (Vocational) – having obtained a triple distinction in her BTEC national diploma in Early Years.
The two winners now compete to be named North West Regional Winner in June, and if successful could go on to the national final.
Head teacher Anne Bright said: “I am delighted to see three former learners from this school achieving so highly in their chosen career pathways.
“It is wonderful to see that they have continued to develop their own individual skills and talents and we here at Birchwood are very proud of them all.”
