PLANS for a hot food takeaway shop on a small shopping precinct have caused a storm of protest.
More than 80 nearby residents have lodged objections to the scheme in Orchard Street, Fearnhead and a 36-name protest petition has been organised.
Borough councillors Colin Oliver and Sharon Wilson have also registered strong objections.
At least four previous plans for similar shops in the road have been rejected by Warrington planners. But this time officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
Objectors say the road is not adequate to take any increase in traffic and that the shop is in a quite residential area. They argue that a takeaway will generate noise, smells and litter.
There are also fears of anti-social behaviour from youths congregating nearby.
Officers dismiss the historical precedent of earlier applications being refused because none were ever challenged at appeal.
They say there would be no detrimental impact on neighbours, the character of the area or highway safety.

So they will ride roughshod over anyone who disagrees with their judgement. Democracy in action.
