Rock Choir brings the sound of music to Warrington Youth Zone’s ‘One More Lap’ challenge

RUNNERS taking part in a gruelling 12-hour charity challenge at Warrington’s Victoria Park were given a musical boost by the Rock Choir at the weekend.

The voices of Rock Choir helped create a festival atmosphere as teams of runners took on One More Lap for Warrington Youth Zone on Sunday.
The event, which had originally been planned for Cheshire Polo Club, was staged at Victoria Park Athletics Track, where runners took part in a 12-hour team relay challenge in aid of Warrington Youth Zone.

The challenge began at 8am and continued through to 8pm, with teams of between four and six runners taking turns to keep going around the course.
And while the emphasis was firmly on endurance, One More Lap was designed to be much more than a running event – with music, food, laughter and community spirit all forming part of the day.
Among those helping to provide the entertainment was Rock Choir, whose members brought plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the track as the runners continued their challenge.

The event organisers describe One More Lap as an ultra-endurance challenge with an accessible and inclusive approach, allowing runners of different abilities to take part. Teams could share the running between them throughout the 12 hours, with the aim simply being to keep going and complete “one more lap.”
There were also prizes associated with the challenge, including awards for the team raising the most money, completing the most laps and creating the best-dressed team camp. ([One More Lap][1])
Participants were asked to make a fundraising commitment for Warrington Youth Zone, with a target of £100 per runner.
Warrington Youth Zone supports young people aged seven to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, providing activities and support across sport, arts, music, media, dance, drama, cooking, employability and enterprise.
The charity’s One More Lap challenge therefore combined physical endurance with fundraising – and, thanks to Rock Choir, plenty of singing along the way.
