Females aged 16 and over are being invited to take part in a free self-defence workshop in Warrington as part of the policing efforts to help prevent violence against women and girls.

The event, which has been sponsored by Cheshire’s Crimebeat, will be delivered in partnership with local police officers and experienced instructors from Gracie Barra, and will take place on Saturday 10 October 2026 from 12pm to 2pm at Gracie Barra, Unit 3, WA2 7UB.
Participants will be introduced to practical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-based self-defence techniques designed to build confidence, promote personal safety awareness and provide useful skills in a supportive environment.
The workshop forms part of Warrington Local Policing Unit’s ‘Hope. Empower. Resilience’ initiative, which brings partners and communities together to help prevent violence against women and girls and support safer communities for everyone.
Organisers hope the event will encourage women and girls to learn practical skills while strengthening connections between communities, local policing teams and partner organisations.
PC Chris Tilley, of Warrington Central Beat Team, said: “Preventing violence against women and girls is a priority for us, and that means working closely with partners and local communities to empower people with the skills, confidence and information they need to feel safer.
“We are pleased to be working with Gracie Barra to offer this opportunity to women and girls in the area. Events like this help us engage directly with local residents, understand the issues that matter most to them and continue building safer communities together.”
PC Anneka Tribe, of Warrington Central Beat Management, said: “As a female police officer, I know how important it is that women and girls feel confident and safe. Through this event, we hope to provide practical skills, build confidence and show the value of communities working together to prevent violence against women and girls.
“Ultimately, we want everyone who attends to leave feeling stronger, more confident and knowing that they are not alone.”
No previous experience is required, and people of all fitness levels are welcome.
Places are free but must be booked in advance.
