Person rescued after slipping down embankment near River Mersey

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a person after they slipped down an embankment close to the River Mersey in Warrington.

The incident happened at around 10.48 am today (Wednesday) near Manchester Road in the Bruche area, close to the River Mersey.

A fire engine from Birchwood Fire Station was sent to the scene after the person became stranded on the embankment.
Firefighters used a short ladder to reach and rescue the casualty, before providing first aid at the scene.
The incident was dealt with by the single fire crew.
The River Mersey runs through the heart of Warrington and its steep banks and uneven ground can present difficulties for anyone who gets into trouble close to the water.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has not released further details about the person’s condition.
