On Sunday September 13, three determined runners represented Warrington-based children’s charity Adoption Matters at the Great North Run, the world’s largest half marathon.
Making up team Adoption Matters this year were Tine, Dan and David (pictured left-to-right), two of whom are adopters themselves, and together they raised almost £3,000, including gift aid.
The charity, who could not be more thankful for their supporters’ tremendous efforts, will use the funds to support more children and families through their support services, the Centre for Fostering and Adoption Support.
Annie O’Neill, Adoption Matters Fundraising and Relationship Manager, says: “Everyone at Adoption Matters is incredibly grateful to David, Dan and Tine for taking on this event in support of us – participating in it is no mean feat.
“It is so heart-warming to know that people are willing to give up their time to train, raise donations and compete in this run to help us expand our services for those who need them.”
With funding cuts prevalent in the adoption sector, voluntary adoption agencies are relying more and more on these types of events to bridge the funding gaps.
Annie commented: “It is so important that we continue strive to improve our support services, and events such as the Great North Run allow us to do just that.
“The funds raised will help to provide essential support to families through our Centre for Fostering and Adoption Support – a service that also benefits foster parents from Foster Care Matters, our not-for-profit fostering agency.
“Any donation, no matter how big or small, can make a huge difference.”
