Warrington Rylands held at Stockton Town

WARRINGTON Rylands were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against Stockton Town after a dramatic first half saw them take the lead, concede a late penalty and finish the match with 10 men.

Rylands picked up where they left off against Hyde, taking the game to their opponents from the outset and looking to test the Stockton defence whenever an opportunity presented itself.
Calum Costello came close to opening the scoring when Nathan Harker found himself well outside his goal. Costello’s ambitious effort from halfway looked destined for the net, only for a Stockton defender to clear the ball off the line and behind for a corner.
Harker was kept busy throughout the opening 45 minutes, making saves to deny Jawad Jebrin, Joe Riley, Dean Furman and Adam Caddick. However, there was little he could do when Harrison Wood finally broke the deadlock.
Wood showed excellent pace and determination, jumping over a sliding challenge on the left before embarking on an exciting run past several defenders and finishing from close range.
Stockton threatened at the other end, but Luke Pilling produced a spectacular flying save to keep the Anchors at bay.

The game took a dramatic turn six minutes into stoppage time when the referee’s decision left Rylands facing a man disadvantage.

Costello, positioned on the goal line, was unable to get out of the way as a Stockton effort struck his arm. The referee awarded a penalty and showed Costello a red card, with Frank Nouble making no mistake from the spot to level the scores.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Rylands continued to press forward after the break and showed no signs of being overawed by their numerical disadvantage.
Whaite found himself through on goal with only Harker to beat, but the linesman’s flag for offside brought the attack to an end, much to the frustration of the home supporters. Whaite went close again later in the half, only to see his effort rebound off the post.
Rylands continued to show tremendous character and attacking intent despite playing with a player fewer.

Manager Reno was full of praise for his side’s effort and commitment, highlighting their ability not only to survive under pressure but to continue looking capable of finding a winning goal.
The result extends Rylands’ unbeaten run to four matches, with attention now turning to Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fixture, when National League North opposition will visit the Quickline Logistics Arena.
