LED by Tatton MP Esther McVey, Cheshire MPs, including Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols, have heaped praise on the county’s top cop, Mark Roberts, after new crime figures show the force boasts the highest charge rate in the country.
Figures from the Office of National Statistics and the Home Office show Cheshire Constabulary topped the list when combining all crimes, and second for vehicle crime and third for shoplifting when broken down by individual categories.
This latest success for Cheshire Constabulary comes just days after the force ranked as one of the top-performing in the country by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
Tatton MP Esther McVey said: “This is wonderful news and I want to congratulate the Chief Constable Mark Roberts. Through his leadership, the force has secured the highest charge rate and that is something to be extremely proud about.
“It shows a great team effort from the Chief Constable, officers, and PCSOs, as well as police support staff. I want to thank them all for the hard work and dedication they show every day in helping to keep our communities safe.”
Ms McVey wrote a letter of congratulations to Chief Constable Roberts and his team, which has been signed by cross-party MPs across Cheshire.
The figures are based on crimes resulting in charges between April 2025 and March 2026 and rank all 43 forces across England and Wales.
