THE Save Woolston Neighbourhood campaigners are planning another peaceful protest ahead of Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet meeting at Time Square on Monday (July 27) from 4.30pm.
The meeting starts at 5:00pm and camapign group Judy Brown will be posing a question over the future of the community neighbourhood hub which has been mothballed since September last year. It partially closed in July 2025 due to ceiling damage over the swimming pool, and then fully closed on Thursday, 4 September 2025 after legionella bacteria was found in the water supply.
Judy will tell the meeting: “Supporters of the Hub were informed when the Consultation concluded in January, that the results would be out in early Spring, and I received an email on 27th January from a senior Director at Warrington Borough Council stating that the options “will include a variation of full re-opening, partial re-opening and full closure.
“Now well into mid-summer, we still haven’t received the results of the Consultation. However, I received an email on 17th June from Cllr Jean Flaherty confirming that the Council “does not currently have the capital funds available to conduct the necessary repairs to bring the Hub back into safe use.” This is consistent with the Leader of the Council confirming at last month’s Cabinet meeting that it required outside investment for both repairs, maintenance and annual costs. This implies that there were only 2 options all along – full closure or “Pass the Hub on to someone else to pay for.”
“Could you therefore confirm that the only possibility of any future for Woolston Neighbourhood Hub is for it to be removed from Council control, resulting in both the maintenance costs and the running costs being paid for by an alternative organisation, who will also have to either carry out or oversee all the work involved with running and maintaining the Hub ? – or do you have an alternative solution and if so what is it ?”
Evenb though the council still hasn’t released full details of its lengthy consultation, Warrington Worldwide understands further limited community consultations have been organised next month, August, involving local workshops.
