A SENIOR member of Warrington Borough Council’s executive board has been suspended from the Labour Party
Cllr Hitesh Patel (pictured), executive member for communications and equality, is alleged to have sent out an inappropriate email.
As a result, a complaint was made to the Labour Party’s regional office and the Great Sankey South ward councillor was suspended.
It is understood the email was not critical of the Labour Party.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of the Labour Group on the borough council, said: “This is nothing to do with the Labour Group.
“As far as I am concerned, Hitesh is a fine young councillor and a valued member of my executive. He is also an excellent ward councillor.
“The complaint was made at regional and national level and is being investigated by them. In the meantime, he has been temporarily suspended. But it is nothing to do with the Labour Group.”
Cllr Patel has already sent apologies for being unable to attend Monday’s meeting of the borough council, but this is understood to be unconnected with the suspension.
Cllr O’Neill said: “He already knew he was unable to attend because of work commitments.”
The source of the complaint about Cllr Patel has not been revealed.
