WORKS will soon start on road resurfacing to the roundabout at the junction of A49 Wilderspool Causeway, A5060 Chester Road & Park Boulevard (known locally as Brian Bevan Island), including its approaches.
The road will be fully closed in Phases from Monday 12 January 2026 for up to 6 weeks to carry out the road resurfacing works safely, with the roads closed between 7:00pm to 1:00am Monday to Friday nights (Saturday morning), there are no planned works at weekends.
All roads will be reopened to traffic outside these times.
Phase 1 (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday nights) will be a full closure of the whole roundabout and its approaches/exits.
The signed diversion route will be via Walton Road, Grappenhall Road, Ackers Road, Hunts Lane, Knutsford Road and vice versa, or via Slutchers Lane, Wilson Patten Street, Parker Street, Liverpool Road, Sankey Green Roundabout, Liverpool Road, Parker Street, Wilson Patten Street, Bridgefoot and vice versa.
The council has been given permission to reopen the bus gate onto Slutchers Lane for access in to/out of Centre Park when the roundabout is closed.
Phase 2 (Thursday nights) will be the closure of A49 Wilderspool Causeway south of the roundabout and will include surfacing the end of River Road.
The signed diversion route will be via Walton Road, Chester Road and vice versa
Phase 3 (Friday nights) will be the closure of the A5060 Chester Road south of the roundabout on Friday nights and will include resurfacing part of Dunlop Street.
The signed diversion route will be via Walton Road, Wilderspool Causeway and vice versa.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and vehicular access will be under the control of the Principal Contractor.
Vehicles parked obstructing the works may be removed.
Changes to bus services will be posted at stops prior to the start of the scheme.
Cones, barriers and signs are there for a reason – to protect workers from danger and to keep the public safe. The council urge drivers to pay close attention to safety when driving near roadworks.
