Road safety group reminds road users to take extra care

CHESHIRE’S Road Safety Group has launched a campaign to remind everyone who uses the road to take extra care on their journeys as the days shorten.

The group has representatives from Warrington, Halton, Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils, Cheshire Constabulary, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Highways England, working together to reduce the number of people killed or injured on Cheshire roads.
The campaign launched as the clocks went back and daylight hours were shortened – a time where visibility is decreased and people using the roads become more vulnerable.
Road Safety representatives from the group are hosting a number of engagement events and school sessions all over Cheshire to remind everyone about how to stay safe when using Cheshire roads.

Rose McArthur, director of transport and highways and chair of The Cheshire Road Safety Group, is backing the campaign to amplify the importance of staying safe when using the roads.
She said: “It’s critical to remain vigilant on our roads, especially at this time of the year when visibility is reduced. Everyone who uses the road has a part to play so, whether you’re a driver, motorcyclist, cyclist, rider or pedestrian, there’s something you can do to make sure you are safe and seen.”
Leader of Warrington Borough Council and cabinet member for transportation, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: “We’re proud to be part of this important campaign. As the evenings get darker, it’s vital that everyone takes extra care – whether you’re walking, cycling or driving. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and through this partnership we’re working hard to make sure people across Warrington have the knowledge and tools to stay safe and visible.”
