A PLAN to build two four-bedroomed detached houses on land off Lumb Brook Road, Appleton, Warrington is being opposed by local residents and councillors.
The site is sandwiched between two existing properties, the Grade 2 Listed Wrights Green College and Greenfields, a property described by borough council planning officers as “a sprawling bungalow.”
The scheme is recommended for approval by borough planners but is opposed by Appleton Parish Council and by ward councillor Laura Booth.
They claim the development would have a detrimental impact on the street scene, hedges and trees and the character of the area.
There are also concerns about loss of green space and highway safety.
Previous applications to build dwellings on the site were refused in 1977, 1989 and last year. Two appeals have also been dismissed.
But officers now say the development is acceptable.
The two dwellings would not have a negative impact on the established local character, nor result in unacceptable harm to the neighbouring listed building.
The proposed dwellings would have an acceptable level of amenity for the future occupants and would not harm the existing levels of amenity.
Members of the borough’s development management committee will rule on the application.
