THE former Royal Oak Branch Pub on Knutsford Road, Warrington, has been sold by community pub group Admiral Taverns and is believed to have been earmarked for a housing development.
The decision to sell was made because it was believed the pub did not have a long-term, sustainable future.
The pub was closed “with heavy hearts” on Sunday, August 10th and has since been boarded up.
A spokesperson at Admiral Taverns commented: “We are strong believers in the importance of community pubs and our focus is always on helping our operators run sustainable pub businesses. After careful consideration however, we felt in this instance that The Royal Oak Branch did not have a long-term sustainable future and therefore we took the decision to sell the pub.”
According to CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale group, the premises are believed to have been sold for housing.
