Large police presence as prisoner goes on run from Thorn Cross

A large police presence was seen in Appleton Thorn on Saturday evening after a 30-year-old prisoner absconded from HMP Thorn Cross.

The police helicopter was called out and a large number of police officers were seen in the village at around 7pm on Saturday.
Despite an intensive search of the area officers were unable to locate the man who is understood to be from the Lancashire area

Officers attended the scene and conducted a search of the area, assisted by the police helicopter, but they were unable to locate the man.
Meanwhile, Cheshire Police have confirmed that a 47-year-old man from Blackburn has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
He has since been released on bail until October 20.
The incident has now been handed over to Lancashire police.
