College set to support women

A WARRINGTON college is celebrating women’s achievements on International Women’s Day next week (March 8) through a special event to promote and celebrate organisations that support women.
There will also be a variety of fundraising events going on at Warrington Colegiate to raise funds for Oxfam’s International Women’s Day Campaign.
The event has been organised by Student Liaison Officer, Natalie Usher with support from the Student Council. Although not a public event it will reach over 1000 staff and students in the college on the day.
International Women’s Day is a global event, but it is not just targeted at women as Natalie explained: “Our International Women’s Day Event at the College is a great opportunity for students to find about the variety of organisations in the community who can support them.
The day is about empowering and celebrating women’s success but also educating dads, granddads, brothers, uncles and friends about the issues affecting women and the help and support that are available. It’s great that our students are eager to get involved and so passionate about the event. “
Media Make-up student, Nicole Hatch,17 from Woolston added, “This event is a great way of raising student awareness of women’s organisations, issues and opportunities.”
International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900’s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.
The Day has been widely publicised across college with presentations in the college social area, The Crescent, through social media and awareness raising by tutors and the Student Council.
