Major extension proposed at popular Village Hotel

PLANS have been submitted for a major extension at Warrington’s popular Village Hotel.

The development – currently being studied by borough council planners – would involve a four-storey extension to the existing Village Hotel, providing 66 additional bedrooms, bringing the total to 193.
There would also be revised parking arrangements and landscaping at the hotel off Lakeside Drive, in Centre Park.
The extension is said to be required to meet increasing demand for hotel accommodation in the area.
It would be four storeys in height, including lower ground-floor level and would be of comparable height and massing to existing three storey elements of the hotel.

The lower ground floor would incorporate plant room and three emergency staircase access points from the upper floors. The upper three floors would be used for additional bedrooms.
Layout of the car park would be largely unchanged with alterations concentrated around the south of the hotel, where the proposed extension would be located.
A number of previous extensions at the hotel have been approved for the last 27 years
But there would be a reduction of 101 car parking spaces, resulting in the proposed car park comprising a total of 272 parking.

At present, six parking spaces are used by shipping containers on-site and it is not proposed to remove these as part of the development proposals.
There are no proposed changes to the vehicular and pedestrian access into the site and the proposals will have no impact on servicing of the hotel, with the service yard including
waste collection facilities located to the rear of the main hotel building. A small amount of incidental landscaping would be removed to accommodate the proposed extension.
