WANTED – people willing to scrutinise the police to ensure their integrity and transparency.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer and Cheshire Chief Constable Mark Roberts are seeking people to join the Independent Ethics Panel.
The panel provides a forum for an independent review of ethical issues in the police service to help inform the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the police.
Mr Dwyer said: “Volunteers will be looking closely at how the Constabulary operates to ensure the presence of integrity and transparency.
“This is a unique role and a great opportunity to be involved in providing reassurance to the communities of Cheshire that the police service that they are receiving is the best it can be.”
Chief Constable, Mark Roberts, added: “Effective policing is vital for any community to feel secure and it is now more complex and fast-moving than ever before.
“Our people work with courage and commitment to keep the people of Cheshire safe and the public must have confidence that we are doing so in an ethical and transparent manner
“The work of the Ethics Panel is key to our approach to identify areas where we can improve and offer an independent perspective of what we do.”
Topics that may be regularly reviewed by the panel included:
• Workforce statistics (diversity issues)
• Stop and search
• Use of force
• Hate crime
• Complaints
• Custody visiting statistics
• Vetting
