A MAN was taken to hospital at Warrington after a thug forced his way into his home and attacked him with a claw hammer.
The victim suffered bruising to his head and body and required surgery for a fractured finger.
Police are appealing for witnesses of the attack in Grasmere Avenue, Orford in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim answered a knock at the door of his flat at around 4.50am. The attacker forced his way in, picked up a claw hammer and attacked the victim, demanding cash.
The victim had over what little money he had and the offender ran off.
Detective Constable Alex Reeves from Warrington CID said: “This was a violent attack in the victim’s home and the offender used the victim’s own hammer to attack him and damage his property.
“If anyone saw a man arriving or leaving the flat at around 5am then please speak to police as he is clearly dangerous and needs to be caught.”
The offender is described as 20-30 years old, 5ft 10in tall of stocky/chubby build. He had short cropped brown hair, a small nose, slightly protruding ears and stubble and spoke with a possible speech impediment. He was wearing a black and blue tracksuit with a black round neck collar jumper.
