Free vet care for school pets in Lymm

A VETERINARY practice that opened in Lymm is offering free vet care to school pets.

Burford Lane Vets, which is based on Burford Lane, at the former Pets Animal Hotel kennels, has pledged to provide veterinary check-ups and treatment free of charge to any pets owned by local schools, as part of its commitment to supporting the local community.

Vet Rachel Dean, who has just joined Burford Lane Vets after working in Lymm for over nine years, is spearheading the campaign. Rachel said: “We want to reassure anyone who is looking after the class pet over the summer holidays that if they have any problems, we are here for them. The offer applies throughout the year too, so any schools that have pets should register them with us now.

“We understand how much joy and support a pet can bring, and we know from the feedback we receive from local primary schools that many children who can’t have a pet at home learn a lot from having a classroom pet. The most popular pets at school tend to be hamsters, rabbits or guinea pigs and they help to teach children about taking responsibility and the natural world.”

Rachel continued “We believe we are the only veterinary practice to provide this free service to school pets and we are excited to be leading this initiative and give as much back to the local community as we can.

“Since announcing that I’ve joined Burford Lane Vets, we have had so much positive feedback on our social media channels, and I feel really welcomed into my role here at Burford Lane Vets.”

Rachel has been a vet for over 24 years and will be working alongside Dr Pieter De Villiers and Dr Sean Cleary, plus head veterinary nurse Gemma Scott, who have all worked in Lymm for many years.

Burford Lane Vets benefits from significant investment in the latest technology and veterinary equipment and has three consulting rooms, a state-of-the art lab, high-tech orthopaedic equipment, online booking, and soothing music to minimise stress in the separate cat and dog wards.
