A residential road at Padgate is set to become one-way next week to prevent commuter traffic using it as a shortcut.

Warrington Borough Council has made an order under Sections 1, 2 and 4 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers on 26th January 2022. The effect of which is to prohibit any Motor Vehicle from proceeding along Beresford Street, in any direction other than a southerly direction (north to south).

Following discussions and consultation with residents and stakeholders of Beresford Street, Warrington it was identified that there is a substantial amount of commuter traffic using the route as a bypass to the traffic signals of Padgate Lane, particularly during peak traffic flow periods. In addition the two way traffic flow on this narrow section of carriageway is introducing head-on conflicts and damage to resident’s vehicles.

The Order will be effective from 1st February 2022. Deposited documents may be viewed on-line at https://www.warrington.gov.uk/permanent-traffic-regulation-orders or Town Hall Reception, Town Hall, Sankey Street, Warrington, WA1 1UH between 9am & 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks from 26th January 2022, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
