Man charged with assault on emergency worker following racial abuse incident at hospital

UPDATED: A 44-year-old man has been charged with assault on an emergency worker following an earlier alleged racial abuse incident involving a nurse at Warrington Hospital.

At around 4.30pm on Thursday, 13 January officers attested the 44-year-old man at Warrington District General Hospital on suspicion of racially abusing a nurse.
He was released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Then around 6pm on Thursday 13 January the same 44-year-old man was arrested at Runcorn Custody Suite on suspicion of assaulting a custody officer.

Garry McVey, of Brook Street, Whiston, was subsequently charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

McVey was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 15 January.

In a separate incident, a 41-year-old male was arrested last night in the town centre for a number of domestic assaults and was also taken into custody pending investigations.
