Friends prepare for The 2021 Gathering Charity Walk

A group of friends from Warrington are preparing for The 2021 Gathering Walk from Warrington to Huddersfield on Friday July 16 to Saturday July 17, a distance of 54 miles.

They will be raising funds in aid of: Stamp Out Suicide, Prostate Cancer, Papyrus and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.



The Gathering Walk is being undertaken by a group of friends and contacts, from Warrington whom annually raise money for charity, this year being joined by some Huddersfield Irish Centre members too.
Colm Farrell, founder of Stamp Out Suicide (one of the charities), whom now lives in Warrington, introduced the Group to Huddersfield in 2020, from getting to know John Lambe and his family, after stopping with them on his charity walk around the England, Scotland and Wales in 2014.
The Group have since become good friends with Huddersfield members and are really looking forward to the 2-day walk, which was originally planned for 2020 but postponed due to Coronavirus.
A core group of around 6 walkers will complete the whole route accompanied by others between stages. The first day is from Warrington Irish Club to the Fiddlers Green Pub, Levenshulme, Manchester following mainly the A57.
The Second day, the group will walk from The Fiddlers Green to Huddersfield Irish Centre, mainly on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, completing its full 20 miles and 74 Locks, before finishing at Huddersfield Irish Centre around 5.30pm.
The evening will continue with showing of the short film ‘The Connemara Connection’ documenting the links between Lettermore and Huddersfield at 8pm, followed by Entertainment by Tom Collins at 9pm.
To complement The Walk, Brothers Pearse GAA (Huddersfield), are hosting a Club Day on the Sunday at their ground, Highfields off Clare Hill, HD1 5BS.

1pm Youth – Go Games
2pm Mens – Brothers Pearse over 40s v under 40s
(Chris Leavy Memorial Cup)
3pm Ladies – Brothers Pearse v St. Lawrence’s, Manchester
(inaugural Roses’ Charity Cup)
