PLANS to convert three adjoining commercial properties in Bridge Street, Warrington into an eight bed house in multiple occupation have been submitted to the borough council.
The property is currently vacant and not trading but the proposal would retain an existing takeaway food use on the ground floor for future use.
The scheme replaces an earlier 12-bed proposal and follows pre-submission discussions with the borough council.
The site lies within the Bridge Street Conservation area and the proposal seeks to preserve the character of the building. No works are proposed on the existing roof and the chimney stacks would be retained. The design seeks to accommodate the residential use within the building while retaining a recognisable commercial frontage.
The takeaway unit is currently vacant but the use would be retained to enable future commercial use.
Eight residential units will be provided in an accessible town centre location while retaining the character and appearance of the conservation area.
The developer says the scheme seeks to bring the vacant buildings back into beneficial use, provide residential accommodation and maintain an active commercial frontage, consistent with the town-centre regeneration objectives.
Planning permission was previously granted under reference 2025/00546/FUL for the change of use of the vacant buildings to an eight-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation, with associated alterations.
The revised application seeks permission for: Change of use of the buildings to mixed use comprising an eight-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation across the first, second and loft floors, with shared ground-floor kitchen and communal facilities, a small ancillary management office, and one groundfloor hot-food takeaway unit, together with associated alterations.
Planning officers are now considering the scheme.
