Police are urging people to take steps to protect their bikes following a number of thefts in the Great Sankey area.
Officers say bicycles and e-bikes have been targeted in recent weeks, with thieves striking while they have been left unattended in public places – including locations where owners may have believed they were securely locked.
Enquiries into the incidents are ongoing, but police are reminding residents to take extra precautions to protect their property and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft.
Residents are being advised to always use an appropriate lock when leaving their bikes unattended and to store them in a secure location at home.
Police also recommend considering video doorbells or security cameras, keeping an eye out for unusual markings around properties, and fitting tracking devices to bikes and scooters.
Security marking bikes and registering them on the national BikeRegister database can also help deter thieves and improve the chances of recovering stolen property.
PC Moreton, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “Bike theft can have a significant impact on victims, affecting their ability to travel to work, education, and other daily activities.
“There are several steps the public can take to help prevent the theft of their bikes, including double-locking them and securing them in recognised and secure cycle parks that are well-lit and have CCTV.
“As well as this, getting them marked for free at one of our marking events and logged on the national BikeRegister and fitting them with tracking devices can help us locate them easier in the event of a theft and can act as a deterrent for any would-be thieves.
“If you are approached by anyone looking to sell a bike, remember to ask for proof of ownership and whether the frame number is on a bike registration database.”
