LEARNERS at Walton Lea Partnership enjoyed their very own festival of fun after a £600 donation from David Wilson Homes helped bring ‘Happy Fest’ to life.
The Warrington charity, which provides work experience and learning opportunities for people with learning difficulties, set out to create its own safe, inclusive version of Creamfields — held just a short distance from its site. The result was Walton Lea Happy Fest, a vibrant outdoor celebration planned and delivered by the learners themselves.
Barbara Parratt, charity worker at Walton Lea Partnership, said: “As with every activity at Walton Lea Partnership, learners were involved from the very first planning stages. Working in small groups, they decided what they wanted the festival to include, designed the mocktails, created colourful banners, and dressed in full festival style. On the day, they even took charge of the music playlist, making sure the entertainer heard – and honoured – every request. The support from David Wilson Homes meant we could provide the treats that made it feel extra special.”
Jennifer Burns, sales director at David Wilson Homes North West, said: “Happy Fest is all about giving the learners the chance to express themselves, make decisions and enjoy a memorable experience. Their creativity shone through and shaped every part of the event and the photos show just how much fun they had.”
Walton Lea Partnership currently supports 65 learners, some of whom have been attending since the charity opened nearly 30 years ago. Based within a Victorian walled garden and neighbouring Walton Gardens, the charity offers a wide range of learning experiences including horticulture, woodwork, bike recycling, retail, café skills and crafts. This variety ensures every learner has the chance to build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy a meaningful, fulfilling day.
