PLANS to convert a former nightclub into a coffee shop would restore a daytime use in the town centre and reduce the risk of late night noise and anti-social behaviour problems for nearby residents, Warrington planning chiefs have been told.
The scheme, submitted by the Ashling Group, involves the now closed Voodoo Bar on Friars Gate.
It would also involve carrying out repairs to the property’s frontage and minor interior alterations.
The three-storey building is surrounded by a variety of businesses, including retail, hospitality and food in an area with a busy night-time economy. But the applicant says the change-of-use will contribute to the diversity and vitality of the area during the day.
The coffee shop will have a service counter, customer seating and areas for quiet study on the ground floor. Opening hours would be between 7.30am and 6pm.
Only minor alterations are proposed to the traditional appearance of the building and deliveries would be via existing loading bays along Friars Gate and rear service alleyways during off-peak morning hours.
Planning officers are considering the proposals under delegated powers.
