Extension to Burtonwood Community Centre planned

PLANS for a single-storey extension to Burtonwood Community Centre are to be put to Warrington planning chiefs – with a recommendation for approval.

The applicant is the borough council itself and the scheme includes additional parking spaces and landscaping and the removal of the existing free-standing bowling pavilion.
No objections have been received.

Members of Warrington’s development managing committee will be told the existing community centre is screened from the wider area by a thick band of trees.
The extension will contain changing rooms for bowlers and match officials.
The access road, Green Jones Brow, is to the west of the site. There are four houses on this road which face towards the community centre with another that has frontage onto Chapel Lane and another elevation facing towards the proposed site.

The site is within the Green Belt but buildings for outdoor sport and recreation are permissible provided there is no harmful impact on the openness of the Green Belt.
It is considered the proposals are not inappropriate in the Green Belt and are not harmful to the amenity of nearby residents.
