A FURTHER 250 homes could be built at Winwick if Warrington planners give the go-ahead – in addition to the 154-dwelling St Oswald’s Place development which won planning consent some two years ago.
Developers Bellway Homes are seeking an opinion from planning chiefs on whether a environmental impact assessment would be required in advance of a planning application for the new development, which would be immediately to the north of the St Oswald’s Place site.
This development would comprise up to 250 dwellings, designed to a low-to-medium density to reflect the local character of the nearby settlement.
The applicants say the scale, design and layout of the development would be carefully considered to complement the existing character of the local area. Any future layout would ensure permeability and integration with the surrounding area. A Public Right of Way to the north of the site would be retained. The proposals provide pedestrian connectivity with the Phase 1 development. Pedestrian and cycle paths are introduced across the scheme, ensuring “walkability” and integration with the surrounding area. The northern boundary will comprise a green buffer to adjacent countryside.
The impacts from the scale and design of the proposed development are therefore not considered to produce significant adverse environmental effects.
When planning consent was sought for the earlier development there was some local opposition because of its proximity to the site of the famous Battle of Winwick – the last major battle of the English Civil War.
But the applicants say there will be no significant impact on the battlefield site.
A full planning application for the additional 250 homes is expected to follow.
