A large emergency presence attended reports of a person in the Manchester Ship canal at Statham near Lymm, early on Sunday morning.
At 05:59 fire engines from Warrington, Widnes, Powey Lane, Knutsford, Lymm and Penketh, the aerial ladder platform from Chester and the Rescue Boat from Warrington, as well as one fire engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended the incident near Statham Lane.
Firefighters had been called to rescue one person from the canal. On arrival, the casualty had exited the water onto an embankment, and firefighters assessed them before handing the scene over to police.
The person was then taken to hospital to be checked over.
