Up to 22 weeks of road closures for Bewsey Road Corridor Improvements scheme

UP to 22 weeks of road closures are being planned next month (April) for Warrington Borough Council’s Bewsey Road Corridor Improvements scheme.

The works are expected to start on April 13th and will be undertaken in phases to minimise disruption.

Warrington Borough Council intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be as follows:
Prohibition of Driving & Footway Closure: Bewsey Road for its entire length; Tanners Lane from its junction with Froghall Lane to its junction with Winwick Street; Bewsey Street from its junction with Bewsey Road to its junction with Edgworth Street; Froghall Lane from its junction with Tanners Lane to its junction with Midland Way; Arthur Street from its junction with Bewsey Road to its junction with Paul Street; Walker Street from its junction with Bewsey Road to its junction with Paul Street; Gladstone Street from its junction with Bewsey Road for a distance of 30 metres; Regency Square from its junction with Bewsey Road for a distance of 30 metres.
The Order will be effective from 13th April 2026 for 22 weeks, with the works undertaken in phases to minimise disruption, as and when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative routes will be: Bewsey Road via Tanners Lane, Winwick Street, Pinners Brow, Winwick Road, Kerfoot Street, Folly Lane and vice versa and via Froghall Lane, Midland Way, Cockhedge Green Roundabout, Lythgoes Lane, Winwick Road, Kerfoot Street, Folly Lane; Tanners Lane via Winwick Street, Pinners Brow, Lythgoes Lane, Cockhedge Green Roundabout, Midland Way, Froghall Lane and vice versa and via Bewsey Road, Folly Lane, Kerfoot Street, Winwick Road, Pinners Brow, Winwick Street and vice versa; Froghall Lane via Midland Way, Cockhedge Green Roundabout, Lythgoes Lane, Pinners Brow, Winwick Street, Tanners Lane and vice versa; Arthur Street via Paul Street, Walker Street and vice versa; Walker Street via Paul Street, Arthur Street and vice versa; Gladstone Street via Eustace Street, Walker Street and vice versa. The restrictions are required for Highway/footway improvement works.
