WARRINGTON Rylands suffered a 2–1 defeat at the Quickline Logistics Arena on Saturday, as FC United of Manchester avenged their earlier loss at Broadhurst Park.
With both Hebburn Town and Hednesford Town only drawing, FC United took full advantage and moved to the top of the table.
The first half was evenly contested, with both sides showing energy but creating few clear chances, and it remained goalless at the break.
Just two minutes into the second half, a rare defensive error from Rylands allowed Jay Fitzmartin to break through on goal, and he calmly finished past Luke Pilling to give the visitors the lead.
Rylands pushed forward in search of an equaliser but struggled to get past Darryl Ombang, who was deputising in goal for the injured Dan Atherton. On 67 minutes, FC United struck again as Adam Sudworth doubled their advantage after an unchallenged run forward.

Manager Neil Reynolds made several changes in an attempt to turn the game around, but Rylands found it difficult to break down a determined Manchester defence that blocked shots and protected their lead well.
A late consolation came deep into stoppage time when Sam Muyengwa was fouled in the box by Andre Wisdom, earning a penalty. Ben Hardcastle converted from the spot, but it proved too late to change the outcome.
Despite the defeat, Warrington Rylands remain fourth in the table and still occupy a play-off place. However, pressure is mounting as both Gainsborough Trinity and Stockton Town picked up wins.
Rylands now face a crucial run of fixtures against both sides, starting with a trip to Gainsborough next Saturday.
