FORMER NRL forward Tevita Pangai Junior has made a U-turn on a one-year contract to join Warrington Wolves for the 2026 season.
A club spokesperson said: “While we are disappointed, the Club accepts his decision, as we remain committed to building a squad of players who are fully invested in the Club and its ambitions.
“We wish Tevita the very best in his future endeavours.”
Pangai Jr’s immediate playing future is unclear at this point, with the 29-year-old now without a contract after nine years in the NRL with the Broncos, Panthers, Bulldogs and Dolphins.
The powerful 29-year-old Tonga international, who left the sport to try his hand at boxing in 2024, had been joining the Wire from Catalans Dragons.
During his time at the Broncos, he ran out at The Halliwell Jones Stadium against Warrington in 2017’s expanded World Club Series.
He represented Tonga at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup as well as New South Wales in the 2023 State of Origin series.
He is a towering presence at 191cm and 117kg. The forward has 188 career appearances to his name, scoring 28 tries.
After leaving the NRL, he had a brief boxing career, participating in several professional fights. His boxing journey included a notable first-round knockout loss in one of his fights.
