Woman named following serious assault in Woolston

A woman who died following a serious assault in Woolston has now been named.

Shortly after 4pm on Monday 13 October, police received multiple reports of an incident at a residential address on Manchester Road in Woolston.
Officers attended the scene, and a 55-year-old woman was found with serious injuries and taken to Aintree Hospital by air ambulance.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved, Michele Kennedy passed away on Saturday 18 October; her family are currently being supported by specially trained officers.
Preliminary results from a Home Office post-mortem examination have indicated that Michele died as a result of stab wounds.

A murder investigation into her death has been launched and a 61-year-old man remains in custody.
Gavin Shaw was previously charged with attempted murder in relation to the incident; he appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 15 October where he was remanded in custody.
Shaw is next set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday 12 November.
