Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after woman stabbed at Woolston

A 61-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed at a residential address, which resulted in the closure of Manchester Road at Woolston, Warrington.

Detectives have now launched an investigation following the serious assault of the 55-year-old woman earlier today, Monday.

At around 4pm today, Monday 13 October, police were called to reports of an incident at a residential address on Manchester Road in Woolston.
Officers swiftly attended the scene and found a 55-year-old woman had been stabbed. She was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 61-year-old man from Warrington was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the incident; he remains in police custody at this time.
Enquiries are ongoing and Manchester Road is currently closed while officers deal with the incident.
Additional officers are also on patrol in the area to provide reassurance. Anyone with any issues or concerns is urged to speak to an officer.
Detective Inspector Eli Atkinson, of the Major Investigation Team at Cheshire police, said:
“I understand the concern that this incident is likely to cause, and I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be a domestic incident and there is no risk to the public.
“A 61-year-old local man has already been arrested in relation to the incident, and he is currently assisting with our enquiries.
“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what happened, saw anything suspicious or unusual, or has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries, to get in touch.”
