TWO members of staff at the head office of Warrington-based national charity Making Space are celebrating after winning top prizes at the charity’s annual colleague awards.
Maj Akhtar, systems and data co-ordinator in the People’ Services team, won the Learner of the Year award and Laura Cregeen, quality systems manager in the Quality and Improvement team won the Behind the Scenes award.
The awards celebrate the dedication and compassion of people working in health and social care across the country.
Making Space, employs more than 1,000 people nationwide and th is year, more than 200 employees were nominated by colleagues, with winners announced at a gala ceremony at The Edwardian hotel, Manchester.
Finalists enjoyed a three-course lunch sponsored by businesses from across the country before the trophies were presented.
Judges said Maj “totally blew them away” with her inspiring passion for making a difference through her learning and development.”
Maj said: “I’m thrilled to have won the Learner of the Year award. If it wasn’t for the amazing teams at Making Space, this achievement wouldn’t have been possible. It reflects our shared dedication to supporting one another and making a positive impact together.”
Judges praised Laura as someone who “goes above and beyond to deliver fantastic guidance to all Making Space services. She always thinks about the bigger picture, asking herself how the people she communicates with feel, and role models this behaviour for her team members. Her impact on the wider organisation is huge.”
Laura said: “Being nominated for this award was already an incredible honour, and attending the ceremony was an unforgettable experience. It was a fantastic day, made even more special by sharing it with so many amazing colleagues from across the organisation. Winning the award was truly the cherry on top.”
