CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved in this year’s Warrington Mela which is fast becoming one of the highlights of the year in the town’s calendar of events.
With current Mayor Cllr. Mo Hussain the inspiration behind the event which first surfaced in 2012, it has gone from strength to strength, with this year’s Mela described as the “biggest and best yet” by the person who helped launch it.
It was also pleasing to see eight-year-old Padgate girl and World Record holder Samiksha Diwakar take centre stage at the event, showcasing Indian culture in the town she lives and goes to school.
Video footage of her remarkable dancing attracted over 275,000 viewings on our Facebook page with hundreds of favourable comments, highlighting many positives for our town.
To those in the community who question why Warrington hosts a Mela, Sami is a prime example of the importance of community engagement and bringing down barriers.
Broaden your horizons and views and embrace other cultures.
Visit next year’s event and see what is on offer. You will love it.
To those of you who always complain about Warrington celebrating other cultures, while not recognising more traditional events like St George’s Day – put your hand up and organise an event for
the town.
St George’s Day takes place on April 23rd which is also the birthday of a national treasure William Shakespeare – if there is anyone out there who would like to organise something let me
know and hopefully it can become another great tradition for our town to celebrate.
We are here to help you promote it – so any organisers out there please email info@warrington-worldwide.co.uk
