Biogas Plant consultation deadline extended

THE deadline for submitting representations relating to Severn Trent Green Power’s planning application to build an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant at Winwick, Warrington, has been officially extended to Thursday, 22nd August.

The proposed development has prompted widespread concern from local residents, community groups, Parish Councils and five Warringotn Borough Council Cllrs. A petition against the application has now gathered over 1200 signatures.
The extension gives residents additional time to make their views known and raise formal objections to what many believe is an inappropriate and potentially harmful industrial facility in a largely rural and residential area.
Severn Trent Green Power is seeking planning permission to construct and operate an anaerobic digestion plant that would process thousands of tonnes of food and organic waste each year to produce biogas and fertiliser. While the company claims the plant will support renewable energy targets and reduce landfill, the specific location and scale of the project have raised major concerns.
The plant would be located close to the village of Winwick, near homes, schools, and on green belt land of nationally historic importance raising questions about the suitability of the site for such an industrial development.
Residents across Warrington and in particular Winwick, Croft, Culcheth and Glazebury are strongly encouraged to submit their objections before the 22nd August deadline via the Warrington Borough Council Planning Portal. Make sure to reference the application number and focus on planning-related grounds such as traffic, pollution, landscape impact, and policy conflicts.

Speaking to Warrington Worldwide Cllr. Stuart Mann (Burtonwood & Winwick) said; “I am pleased that the closing date for representations has been extended.
“This application has so many technical and lengthy documents associated with it that it is really important everyone is afforded the time and space to fully comprehend what they say in order to submit their objections in confidence.
“I would also add that I have had multiple complaints about the WBC planning portal not working as well as it should be and not offering a clear alternative process if residents are unable to submit their objections. For those not online the portal is not a fair an equitable way of ensuring voices are heard.
“If anyone is having problems they should email cllrstuart.mann@warrington.gov.uk

Cllr Mann added: “Planning decisions are influenced not just by technical reports but by the strength of public opinion.
“This development could have a lasting impact on Winwick’s character, environment, and community wellbeing.
“I would encourage residents to act now, stay informed, and help protect the future of this historic village.”
