GRAPPENHALL’S batsmen turned in probably their best performance of the season so far when they totalled 250-6 at home to Marple.
But unfortunately the bowlers could not come up with the goods when the visitors batted and cantered to an eight wicket victory – leaving the Broad Lane side still looking for their first win of the season at the bottom of the Cheshire County League division one table.
Grappers lost a wicket without a run on the board, but after there were useful knocks from Sam Trumper, 48, Tom Brimelow, 63, Lewis Porter 48, and William Fell, 42.
By contrast, Marple had 133 on the board before they lost a wicket and claimed victory with only two wicket down.
In division three, Warrington slipped up at home to Barrow.
The visitors batted first and were all out for 206. Brandon Andrews took 3-50 and Asmir Ali, Chai Gadepalli and Brad Roden picked up two wickets each.
Warrington went for the runs after an interruption for rain but were all out for 162, despite some late hitting from Charlie Jones, 51 not out.
The result meant Warrington dropped to third place in the league table.
In the Cheshire League division one, Lymm Oughtrington Park lost by one wicket at h ome to Old Parkonians.
Lymm were bowled out for 145, with Chris Oakes, 36 and Alan Brown, 40 the main contributors.
Anthony Spaven, 3-28 and Antonel Atwell, 3-44 bowled well for Lymm but the visitors scraped home with a wicket to spare.
In division two, Appleton went down by eight wickets at home to Wirral.
Batting first, they were all out for 175, Scott Sparks hitting 50 and Adam Pearson 38.
Wirral hit off the runs in 32 overs for the loss of two wickets, both of which fell to Aamir Akash.
Glazebury lost by 22 runs in their division three clash with Styal.
The visitors batted first and were all out for 158, Ryan Warhurst taking 3-13, Ben Marote 2-22 and SeanCaine 2-32.
Wayne Hargreaves hit 47 and Seth Barnes 36 as Glazebury replied with 136.
