WARRINGTON’S Litter Network is looking for up to 100 volunteers to take part in “Warrington’s First Mayoral Litter pick” with Mayor Mo Hussain, on Saturday morning June 21st.

This also happens to be a “Solstice litter pick” on be the longest day of the year, about half way through 2025.

Tony Dixon, a Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes Ambassador said: “It is open to adults and accompanied children over 12 years. The morning will start with arrival at 0815, followed by kit distribution, a photo and a safety briefing and route briefings. Then we are planning for 8 teams to tidy 8 different routes directly from Warrington Town Hall. After this two hour litterpick there will be refreshments for volunteers. We will have a drone camera overhead to capture a Birds Eye view of the teams. The event will be finished by 12 noon.
“Thanks to a number of hard working local volunteer groups and solos, Warrington is gradually emerging as the cleanest town of its size in the North West of England.”
In Keep Britain Tidy’s recent two week “GB Spring Clean”, Warrington volunteers picked up over 1157 bags of litter, the third biggest haul in the country.

  1. I have been writing to a Councillor for months about the condition of the property next to Peter Michael Hairdressers, on Winwick St, Warrington WA1 1XR. Although the Councillor has been doing his best to have this situation remedied, it seems council officers are not interested in civic pride. The property is a disgrace and the owners have abandoned it, leaving it open with a build up of rubbish and it being used as a toilet. The health and safety implications are huge due to vermin and access to the adjacent property with is structurally unsafe. If children got into the property, they is a danger of someone being hurt by falling or a collapse. I hope the clean up gets this property which is an eyesore for any resident or anyone visiting the town from the bus or train station.

I own the premises next to this disgraceful building and I find it exasperating that the Council after several months of trying to contact them are unwilling to answer my emails. The litter pick is a great idea and I hope that they have a great day but this filthy derelict eyesore will still be here for as long as Warrington Council are prepared to turn a blind eye.
