Man arrested as police seek witnesses following serious sexual assault near Golden Square

POLICE are seeking witnesses after a 26-year-old man was arrested following a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Wednesday near to Golden Square Shopping Centre in Warrington town centre.

At 5.38am police received a report that a 40-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted near to Golden Square in Warrington.
Officers attended the scene and specially trained officer are supporting the victim. Enquiries are ongoing and a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Detective Inspector David Schofield said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and officers are in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.
“Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 2099008. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A spokesperson for Golden Square added: “Golden Square can confirm that an incident has occurred this morning. We are working closely with the police and providing full support to their ongoing investigation. Ensuring the safety of everyone in the community remains our top priority, and we are committed to cooperating fully to assist in any way possible during this time.”
