Warrington Town confirm retained list following end of season

WARRINGTON Town have made their first steps towards re-building for the new Northern Premier League season.

Following their disappointing relegation from National League North, just three players are currently guaranteed to return for the Yellows for 2025/26 – under contract goalkeeper Dan Atherton, hometown midfielder Sam Gill and youngster Murphy Bennett.

Long-serving skipper Josh Amis, Evan Gumbs, Jay Harris, Bohan Dixon, Matty McDonald and Matty Makinson are all in discussions with the club about being part of Paul Carden’s squad for next season.

But all other members of the 2024/25 squad have now departed the Cal.Delivery Stadium, including veteran defender Peter Clarke.

Joe Rodwell-Grant, who despite his struggles in front of goal enjoyed a bright end to the season playing on the wing, is to depart having attracted interest from National League North, and all of last summer’s signings ahead of the ill-fated campaign have departed too, including Mikey O’Neill and Ollie Southern.

Popular loanee Aaron James has returned to Wrexham, with fellow loan player Lee Williams returning to Stockport County.

Three players have been offered the chance to come back in pre-season to impress after completing their injury rehab with the club – left-back Jack Hont, winger Elliot Morris and left-back Andy White.

After two seasons in National League North, the Yellows will return to the NPL, where they have reached the play-off final in each of their last three full seasons in the division.
