Long delays on M56 and M6 following HGV fire and collision

THERE were lengthy traffic delays on the M56 and M6 near Warrington this afternoon (Friday) following a HGV fire and a collision resulting in lane closures.

The M56 was backed up near the Lymm Truck Stop between J08 to J09.
At 15:09 three fire engines from Knutsford, Lymm and Stockton Heath attended a fire involving a heavy goods vehicle on the hard shoulder of the M56 around the High Legh area.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus brought the fire under control. Lanes were closed to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident.
The M6 near the Woolston interchange was also blocked southbound at J21 due to a collision.
