PLANS have been submitted for the change of use of an industrial unit to a swimming pool on the Causeway Business Park, Warrington.
The application, currently being studied by planning officers at Warrington Borough Council, is from Time to Swim and involves a vacant unit on a development which hosts a varied mix of businesses, including vehicle repair, electrical appliance and cleaning product sales.
The recently refurbished unit benefits from a large area of shared parking which, given the nature of the other businesses, is under-utilised. It has been vacant since last October.
The proposals include the installation of an 18m long swimming pool with associated staff accommodation, toilet, changing and visitor viewing areas.
The applicant has identified a demand for swimming lessons within the borough due to a lack of capacity and provision. The business will not only focus on younger years’ learning but is aiming to provide accessible facilities for wheelchair users as well as other specialist groups.
The premises will be catering mainly for children in the weekdays after school so opening hours will be between 16.00 and 20.00.
It is expected the business will be employing two full time members of staff and 12 part-time.
Consultants advising the applicant says a lot of leisure businesses such as gyms are “popping up” in established employment parks. The differing operating hours is advantageous.
Planning officers are now studying the proposals.
