A PSYCHOLOGY student at Warrington with plans to become an investigative journalist has won a competition to have her work displayed in a bookstore.
Kamila Olszewska won the competition that was run as part of the Psychology course at Priestley College after reviewing “Brainwashing” by Kathleen Taylor.
“I picked that book to review because we are covering criminal psychology and that topic really interests me,” said Kamila.
“It interests me the kind of people who have been brainwashed and how going through something like that can change you.”
Psychology tutor Mel Jackson presented the class with a reading list and the challenge of reviewing one of the books.
Kamila’s prize was a £25 Waterstones’ voucher and having her work displayed in the Warrington store.
Runner-up was former Birchwood High School pupil Madura Nimaleswaran. She reviewed 59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot by Richard Wiseman, which she described as a ‘refreshing approach to self-help’.
“The competition was a fun way to explore some of the best-known books on psychology and it was great to partner with Waterstones as well,” said Mel.
“As always the students responded to the challenge and produced some thoughtful and impressive reviews.”
Kamila also studies classical civilisation, English Language and Literature, Priestley’s High Achievers’ Program (The Graduate) and journalism.
“I’m interested in investigative journalism and believe it is something that is really important in the world right now,” she said.
