Plans to demolish former British Legion club are thrown out.

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have thrown out proposals to demolish the former Royal British Legion Club at Stockton Heath.

The decision means – for the time being at least – that the semi-derelict building will remain in Ackers Road, close to Stockton Heath Fire Station.
It ceased to operate as a British Legion Club more than 10 years ago and was latterly a pub, named “The Stansfield” in memory of former long-standing councillor Mike Stansfield.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service had sought permission to demolish the building, which they said was in a poor conditions and vulnerable to fly-tipping and vandalism.

They did not, however, put forward any proposals to redevelop the site.
When the British Legion moved out of the premises, Stockton Heath Parish Council set up a working party to consider ways of bringing it back into community use as the village had no community centre.
But after use as a pub ceased, the building stood empty and its condition began to deteriorate.
Now its future is uncertain.
