A GROWING Gaelic sports club at Warrington is seeking planning consent for an equipment store at their existing ground at Appleton Thorn.
Warrington Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) wants to place a steel container on the edge of the car park at the ground off Lumb Brook Road.
The club has been using the field since 2022 for adult and junior hurling and Gaelic Football matches and training.
Membership is growing and there is an increased need for a storage facility for sports equipment. The proposal has been discussed with the borough council’s games and parks team, who have no objection.
The GAA has more than 80 clubs across Britain, run by volunteers. . They are committed to enabling active lifelong participation for all.
The applicant considers the development will have no significant impact on the Green Belt. The storage container, coloured matt green, can easily be accommodated within the site without disruption of the car parking arrangements of wider users of the playing field, even at peak times of use.
Matches are organised on the field by Warrington GAA and Lancashire GAA.
Borough council planning officers are now considering the proposals.
