VIDEO: COUNCIL Chief Executive Prof. Steven Broomhead remains confident that Government funding will still be made available for the Western Link in Warrington.

Prof. Broomhead was answering questions in his annual interview with Warrington Worldwide on issues affecting the town.

He believes the funding will still be made available for the Western Link as part of the proposals to re-develop Bank Quay station as part of the Bank Quay Gateway.
This will also open up the Lever Brothers and Crosfields sites for future employment and housing opportunities.

He says discussions are ongoing and it isn’t a “white elephant,” adding “I am confident a decision on funding will be made in 2025.”

He also said investment in Warrington’s Own Buses was paying off, with the company now making a profit thanks to the new depot on Dallam Lane and the new electric fleet.
He added that passenger numbers were now also returning to pre-Covid levels.
In his Christmas message to local residents, he described Warrington a “great place to live, learn and relax.”
He said it was important to remain positive and congratulated Warrington Worldwide on “going from strength to strength” as a “critical friend.”
